This week we make what feels like a summersault of intensity into the Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. For our friends in the Southern Hemisphere we say to you: Happy Spring!
The Equinox gives us equal day and equal night, equal dark and equal light. The Sun also enters LIBRA, a sign represented by balanced scales. I can’t help but hear a call to honor the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, a pioneer in women’s rights and civil liberties. As a woman who works in Justice, I appreciate this woman’s great effort to provide opportunities to gals like me who want to play a role in the greater society. While this loss increases the tension in an already high stakes election, I’d like to sit in awe for a moment about her commitment to life’s work, literally until the end. In some ways we all can find us dedicated to our life’s work, whether it’s home, family, creative pursuits or that coin.
This week, I’ve implores the stars and cards and the judicial spirit RBG. Find what your sun sign needs to know below as we enter new seasons in 2020.
(September 23 – October 22)
Queen of Wands
Long stalks of grass, golden rays of sun. Birds fly together against a pink sky, following a shared instinct, seeking water and rest. Libra knows that at the heart, everything is connected. And the Queen of Wands comes in like everyone’s favorite sunset scene, full of joy and the abundance of living. If you haven’t figured out how charming you are, dear Libra, why not give it a go this birthday season. Confidence looks good on you.
(October 23 – November 21)
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg said “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.” These words were spoken by a woman who fought a very real and very enduring fight that brought some very real change. XI Justice speaks to the ripple effect of our actions, and the responsibility to act accordingly. Perhaps we never live to see the end result of our actions, but just to become activated is enough. This week, Scorpio, get activated. Whether it’s within your community or your home base, pursue positive change.
(November 22 – December 21)
Page of Swords
The energy of this card feels like that moment when the morning coffee hits and all those ideas you woke up with seem highly do-able in the next 12 hour period. This heightened energy has gotten you in trouble before, because coffee wears off, energy runs out and you might be knee deep in a project when you realize you don’t have the right tools. But the Page of Swords suggests that failure is actually never getting started. This week, Sagitarius, take your dreams and make them a reality, or try to at least.
(December 22 – January 19)
9 of Swords
Did you head last week’s warning to get your rest, dear, efficient Capricorn friends? Last week’s nap time is this week’s sleepless nights. You may find yourself worried and pessimistic, or just, like, totally freaking out. If this is you, rest assured that this pendulum is about ready to swing back in a better direction. And while I would hesitate to say enjoy the ride, just take care of yourself along the way.
(January 20 – February 18)
XVI The Tower
XVI The Tower shows up as an undeniable transformation when the false truths fall apart and something that’s beneath the facade comes into the light. Just because it could get ugly doesn’t mean that in the end it won’t be beautiful. To borrow words from Ruth Bader GInsberg: “So often in life, things that you regard as an impediment turn out to be great, good fortune.” If your world is crumbling, XVI The Tower dares to say it might be for the best. The precaution here is: Don’t make any moves. Don’t do any fixing. Wait for the aftershocks to clear to figure out what is going on and what you need to do.
(February 19 – March 20)
Three of Cups
2020 has been an undeniably odd year, to say the least. And though we are all living through some hard times, some seem to be actually enjoying themselves. Observe the happiest amongst us and you’ll see they aren’t without struggle, but they are making the best of it. This week, the cards call in some Joy for our Pisces friends with the Three of Cups. Your homework this week is to hang with your homegirls. Whether in person or in a group text, get your girl gang going to increase your quality of life and enjoyment.
(March 21 – April 19)
Getting what you want out of the world does not typically occur when you stomp our feet and demand it. Even asking nicely doesn’t always get you what you need. VIII Strength knows that a blocked river always finds its way through, slowly and persistently. To quote Ruth Bader Ginsburg here, “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” This week Aries, don’t pop off. Your method should involve planning and persuasion. Results will always vary, but doing it with purpose is better than not doing it at all.
(April 20 – May 20)
Seven of Cups
You know that feeling after you’ve binged a good book or television series? You get so wrapped up in the characters and plot line, even grew attached to the small fictional town. And when it’s all over you come crashing back down to reality and don’t know what to do with yourself. Yeah, that. Whatever fantasy swept you away from the earth, it’s simply time to return. I would suggest lots of rooting activities for you, dear Taurus. Bare feet on the grass, sitting against trees, weeding your garden. Do not attempt to seek another fantasy. Be here, now.
(May 21 – June 21)
Eight of Pentacles
Should we quote Ruth Bader Ginsburg again? RBG once stated that she would like to be remembered as “someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability.” And I cannot think of anything that more accurately expresses the efficient energy of the Eight of Pentacles. This week, Gemini, you may experience an increase in productivity, an ability to see the value in what you do and a revived passion in the pursuit of what you are after.
(June 22 – July 22)
Ace of Cups
When the emotional heart opens it overflows in both directions. This can be both a wonderful sensation and a horribly vulnerable endeavor. But no matter what the heart experiences, it grows. This week Cancer opens up to some new feels with the Ace of Cups as a fresh emotional phase begins. Without expecting to know what it will entail, trust that what comes is meant for you and is there for growth and understanding.
(July 23 – August 22)
XII The Hanged One
The cards place Leo at a crossroads this week, and while they may be at a point of many paths, the universe will not let them choose. XII The Hanged One is a wait-and-see energy; a fifteen-minutes-past-my-appointment-time vibe; an irritating stagnation; a liminal space. This week, Leo, just roll with it. Expect some delays and boredom. Trust that something is in the works for you, but it cannot be jump started, so you just have to chill.
(August 23 – September 22)
Queen of Cups
No one does it quite like you do, my dear. So why do it any other way? The Queen of Cups shows up with her unique kind of loving and it’s some kind of Extra. This week, Virgo, avoid the pressures of comparison and self-criticism. Instead, give yourself permission to be your pure self: attached, unedited and relentlessly loving. The world needs its big beautiful Virgo hearts, so give us what you got.
